Information: First Sundays are a deep dive into the themes, ideas and insights involved in the production of the play at the Vortex. For Lysistrata, The Vortex Theatre and the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice present a conversation about women striking for peace from Aristophanes' time to the present.

This is the first in a series of events by the Vortex titled "First Sunday" to be presented on the Sunday of opening weekend of our productions using the newly opened show as the link to what will be presented on the Sunday Evenings. We welcome the public to join us for panel discussions, musical performances, open mic's and anything to create an environment of community & sharing.
Maria de Buenos Aires is truly unique in the opera repertory: a tango operetta. Join Maestro Barrese, Scenic Designer Valeria Rios-Giermakowski, and the stars of the show for a deep dive into the challenges and joys of bringing this work to life. Hosted by the Opera Southwest Guild, this two-hour event includes a panel discussion, Q&A with the artists, coffee and delicious breakfast treats and time to mingle with the Opera Southwest Community. These two-hour events are held on Saturday morning a week or so prior to the opening of each Opera Southwest production. The singers, musical and artistic staff and other opera professionals offer their perspectives on the opera, providing an in-depth view for a deeper understanding and enjoyment of the performance.
ATG and TLC members are invited to hear a presentation by director Zane Barker and stay for the rehearsal of Act I of MTS' production of ELF which will open on Dec. 14.

The Playwrights Circle will present the 3rd Annual Staged Reading
Festival for all playwrights who are current members of the Albuquerque
Theatre Guild. The Festival will be held at The Adobe Theater, Friday, May
17, 7:30 pm; Saturday, May 18, 7:30 pm, and Sunday, May 19, 2:00 pm,

Blind judging: A panel of judges will read the plays without knowing the
names of the authors. Each play submitted will receive a short critique from
Playwrights will be notified of their selection by March 20, 2019. Each play
read at the Festival will be followed by a Q&A. Playwrights must be in
attendance at the Festival.
Deadline for submissions: Plays must be submitted beginning December
1, 2018, and received no later than January 31, 2019.
Length of play: 10 pages to full-length plays
Number of characters: Maximum of 8 characters
Number of submissions per playwright: Maximum of 2 plays (no more
than one play from each playwright will be presented at the Festival)
Format: All plays must be in a standard playscript format (sample
Title page: Title page to include only the title of the play.
Email: Include title of play, author, and contact information.
Word or PDF formats will be accepted.
No previously published or produced plays can be considered (including
public staged readings).

New Mexico High School Musical Theatre Awards
We're making a presentation to the New Mexico Legislative Education Study Committee on "How Theatre Programs Apply Lessons from Every Discipline and Why That’s Important" on September 27 at 3pm. We'd love to see a lot of students, parents, and teachers there to support the case we're making. The committee is meeting at Hawthorne Elementary School that day, 420 General Somervell NE in Albuquerque. Come on down!
